Klippers Win A Thriller 4-3 In OT

First off I am so mad I did not get to broadcast this game live due to the MLB playoffs. The fact that it was probably the most exciting game of the season didnt help either. Doing the live updates just made me want to call the game more, unfortunately I couldnt. As for the broadcast tonight , we are good to go and will start with pre game at 715.

On to the game , the Klippers were booed when they stepped onto the ice pretty hard. The Whitney Forum was packed with Bomber fans. I am not sure if the booing got to the Klippers players but they came out in the first period and looked very rusty. They simply got out hustled in the first which put them down 2-0 at the end of 1.

In the second period things changed drastically,  the Klippers came out like storm troopers scoring 2 goals in just over 2 mins. One from Johnny Calkins , and the second from Justin Gerwing. It was a great start to the second period that silenced the crowd. Despite a flurry of oppurtunities the Klippers found themselves still tied at 2 when Flin Flon took advantage of a oppurunity and scored to make it 3-2 and that stood until the third period.

In the third the Klippers looked even better than the second and quickly tied things up at 3 on Jordon Hoffmans first of the season. The rest of the period the Klippers dominated , with chance after chance but just couldnt barry the oppurtunitys. The Klippers out shot the Bombers 22 - 4 in the final frame and 50-24 on the game.

Late in the third period Klippers fwd Brett Penner took a checking from behind penalty for a 2 minute penalty and a ten minute game misconduct.
At this point I was thinking no way , the Klippers played so well tonight and are going to lose this game on a questionable penalty call late in the third , when the refs had let them play all period with out any penalty calls.
The Klippers though made one of their weaknesses look like a strength which is the PK. They killed off the penalty with ease and kept the majority of play in the Bomber zone. A very important penalty kill sent this one to overtime.

In OT I really like Larry Wintoneaks mind set. He sent out 3 fwds and one dman. It shows he wants to win and not fool around hoping for a shootout. The Klippers would go on to score a minute 36 into OT when Sanfred King busted down the right side , took a shot , got his rebound behind the net , he then tryed to stuff it in shortside but the goalie just got enough to hang on for a moment. Then out of nowhere Tanner Exner comes crashing the net to slam the puck in the back of the net, and the Klippers silence the Bomber crowd with a huge vicotry.

Other game notes -

- The Klippers PK was money , they went 4 for 4 and looked great. They practiced it all week and it sure showed.

- Justin Mcdonald got his first SJHL victory. Solid performance for the rookie after getting thrown into the game at the last second when Hellyer was feeling sick before game time.

- D Jay McGrath made his Klipper debut and had some solid chances. Overall I thought he played well especially near the end of the game. I expect a big game from him tonight.

- Riley Down was back in action for the Klippers after missing 7 games. He didnt look like he missed a beat and was solid all night. He really looked good jumping up on the rush a few times to. Very solid at both ends of the ice.

- Jordon Hoffman scored his first goal on the season which was great to see. He has played well all season but just hasnt been able to hit the goal sheet. I expect the goal to give him confidence and he will continue to score for the Klippers.

- Streaks- Taylor Duzan was on a 7 game goal streak but couldnt continue it after scoring in every game of the season except opening night in Battlefords. I feel like I might of jinxed it since I brought it up with Duzzy at breakfast on Friday.

Sanfred King also has a 6 game point streak going after getting a helper in OT.

Overall a great game for the Klips , I cant wait for the game tonight.

I have post game interviews I will get up shortly. McGrath , Exner , Mcdonald , and Larry so check back in a bit
