Long Road Trip Comes To An End Tonight From Yorkton

It has not been a kind roadtrip for the Kindersley Klippers who have now dropped 9 straight contests including a thriller from Melville last night. After a very disappointing game against Notre Dame, Kindersey bounced back and brought everything they had to the table last night against the money men. Kindersley held a 2-1 lead after forty after playing a very good opening 2 periods. Brett Blatz scored the only goal of the 2nd as he riffled home his 1st SJHL marker on a wrister from the blueline.

The third period came around and at about the ten minute mark you could see the momentum start to shift. Melville got a powerplay and they would capitalize off of the stick of Jesse Mireau for his 2nd of the game which would tie the contest. You could somewhat sense disaster coming after the tieing marker, but at the same time were thinking Kindersley is due for a win, you have to think the next bounce would go their way, WRONG!

Taylor Duzan was called for a hooking penalty. Now I don't like to knock officials but Duzan by no means at all made a hooking gesture or anything close to it and he was sent to the box. That was blow one for Kindersley, blow two was a shot from the blueline by Christensen that would of went well wide that ends up hitting his teammate Trudeau in the visor. His visor cracked and ended up coming off and the play would continue. After it hit his visor it bounced right to McNulty in front of the goal for an easy tap in. From my understanding, it was indeed a good goal as even though Trudeaus visor came off, he was not involved in the play and his team still had possession of the puck which lead to the McNulty put back to give the Mills the 3-2 lead with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game. After that on another powerplay Lowe-wylde would seal the deal and Melville would win their 5th in a row by a score of 4-2. I guess it really is true than when your in a rut no bounces go your way. I'm not a broadcaster that is going to sit here an make a bunch of excuses but I really felt bad for the Klippers last night. They brought everything they had in order to try and snap the skid but nothing went their way. They are working hard but for whatever reason can not get a bounce. Having said that I would think that if they can bring that compete level again tonight against Yorkton they may be able to prevent the skid from going to 10 straight loses.

Pre game tee up:

It's going to be another stiff test for Kindersley as they will play their 3rd game in 3 nights against a strong Yorkton squad. The Terriers are starting to find more consistency in their game having won 3 of the last 4. They also found a way to beat Kindersley in the 2 teams only meeting of the season thus far back on Nov.9th with a 4-3 overtime victory. As bad as this slide has been for Kindersley, a win tonight really could turn things around in time for Saturdays meeting at home when they once take on the Hounds. I know this team gets fired up whenever they are up against Yorkton. The Terriers have really had Kindersleys number over the past few seasons knocking them out of the post season back to back years. I talked with Yorkton head coach Trent Cassan on last nights broadcast as he was in attendance to watch Kindersley and Melville play. He mentioned he liked what Kindersley brought to the table last night and said his team will have to be ready to play tomorrow night. It should be a high spirited, physical affair from the Farrell Agencies Arena.

I will tweet some lineup notes prior to the game. I can tell you that D Jay McGrath is day to day with a lower body injury and wont play tonight. The pregame show starts at 7:15 with puck drop at 7:30. http://asx.abacast.com/kindersleyklippers-live-32.asx

  4. I think the organization needs to get rid of the coach, unfortunately it's just not working for him, maybe he needs to focus on something else for a while instead??.... I mean there is still an experienced coach in town who (I would bet) could get this team back on a winning streak.
All the best to the team for the rest of the season! I feel for some of these guys, as I know it's not fun for them - but proud that they keep going.

  10. Said it before and I'll say it again, our head coach did not forget his x's and o's. Let's go through this one more time and let's see if you can all grasp this. Last year, 3 dynamic forwards on the first unit, great supporting cast with Sanfred King, then the Hoffman line, McGrath, the Bash Brothers stirring it up. Sonntag, Leedahl and Flannagan on the back end with good support from Rodgers, Haaff and Morin. Goaltending was solid. This year's team just doesn't have the same horses in the barn, that's the bottom line people. Very good YOUNG talent here, give this team some time. It's not going to happen this year which is to bad for the four 20's. It's not easy for these kids and it's even tougher for the players who are in their last year. The last thing they need is people dumping on them. Would you want to read the crap some people post if your son was on the team? Not likely.

For the record there are scouts in place. Don't believe everything you hear about this guy quit or that guy quit.

    GO KLIPPERS!

  11. And for the record that team that did well at the end of last season was coached by Wintoneak - he set that team up, NOT rockie - he just followed everything Wintoneak had in place last season, didn't do much on his own - until maybe this season, and we can all see how that's working out.

And I don't think people are dumping on the players - they feel bad for the players because they're not being coached well and they're not being given the direction they need. I think rockie may have potential in the future, but he shouldn't be head coach now or anytime soon. He lacks knowledge and experience and the guys are getting frustrated with him. Everything starts with the leadership of the coach and unfortunately the team just isn't getting that this year and the guys are the ones paying for it (not fair for them). It's really unfortunate for the guys who care out there.

  13. For the record many scouts quit on Larry just as the players did last year because he was difficult to work for. The Klippers actually have a large scouting staff in place right now. If Larry was such a great coach why did he fail to make the playoffs in year 1. All he had to do was tie against Battleford in the last game of the year but he choked and lost in the dying minutes.

  14. With the exception of a player or two who are great buds with Rockie, the guys from last year and many of the guys on the team this year would tell you it was a huge mistake letting Larry go last year and they want him back. Not like that's going to happen (especially with Rockie and Rod being friends) but I agree with the 6:18 poster, Rockie shouldn't continue on here. He lacks the maturity and experience needed. What Larry did with the team and organization over the last few years, was build it up, he brought heart and passion to the game and the players fed off that - now I'm not saying that he didn't have areas to improve on because he did, but that's in the past and I'm sure he learned and if he had the opportunity to come back here he would be that much better. He built up the Klippers and cleaned up many areas of the organization - and it's now sliding backwards. That's not what this team needs. They need someone who is going to coach these guys and give them motivation, heart and passion. I could go on, but I would be repeating what's already been said.

I completely support the guys out there, just don't support the coach. I want to see the guys do well, as we all do - and I think in order for that to happen there needs to be something done about the coach - it's not bashing him, this maybe just isn't where he's supposed to be right now.

Hope the guys can get out of this losing streak on Saturday!

  15. Would you be able to play when you know you've just be put on the trade block? Why in the world would the 20's be told that when they're on the road?

  16. It would not have been a surprise to these players to hear that they could possibly be on the move. They would have known this might have happened at the beginning of the year, especially if the team looked like it wasn't in the running for a run at a championship.

They would have been told so they heard it from the team and not from some Twitter feed or Facebook posting. When a player is put on the wire (trade block) it is sent to all the Jr. A teams across the country. Would you rather have the player hear it from his own team or from some player on another team who got the inside scoop from a coach or GM?
