Kindersley Sends Wheaton King To Nipawin, Wasden to Melville

Updated with a phone interview with former Klipper Taylor Wasden

Taylor Wasden On Being Traded

----

Trade deadline update.

The Kindersley Klippers have traded Taylor Wasden to the Melville Millionaires for future considerations.

I know Taylor was really shook up about the possibility of being dealt. He loved everything about the town of Kindersley and being a Kindersley Klipper, but as much as Wazy loved this town, his ultimate desire is playing the game of hockey. It was tough for him to have to put everything in Kindersley behind him, but in the end he wanted to continue playing hockey for as long as possible this year, and going to Melville gives him a great shot at an SJHL Championship. At this time the futures are unknown but I am hoping to find out more shortly.

Wasden was a big time fan favorite in Kindersley, and he will certainly be missed for his work on and off the ice. Going to Melville in my mind is a good fit for Taylor. They have a ton of skill and they just got a hell of alot tougher to play against.

I know Taylor has a few things he wanted to say to the town of Kindersley via interview. I hope to get a hold him later tonight for a phone conversation as he has already departed to Melville. They want him to get there in time to suit up for tomorrows game so he didn't have much time to chat.

Still lots of time left until the deadline, and I don't believe Kindersley is done just yet.

----

Well it has been a very quiet SJHL trade deadline so far today, that is until the Klippers decided to shake things up moments ago.

Kindersley has traded Wheaton King and futures to the Nipawin Hawks in exchange for 1993 born center Alex Laird and future considerations. In terms of the futures the SJHL and the Klippers organization has asked for them not to be released until later on this afternoon.

Rockie Zinger had mentioned to me earlier in the season that a number of teams had shown interest in acquiring Wheaton Kings services, so I am not that surprised he was dealt today.

King up to this point had lead the Klippers in points with 30 in 35 games. King still has another full season in the SJHL, and like I had mentioned in my previous trade deadline preview post it would have to take a big package for Kindersley to deal King. Obviously Rockie Zinger felt strongly enough about the package coming back to deal a player of King's caliber.

I can tell that Kindersley will also include a list kid along with King going to Nipawin. In return they receive King, and two other list kids to be announced this afternoon.

In terms of Alex Laird, he has 11 points in 27 games so far this season with the Hawks. Here is his hockey bio http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=65579

Hoping to get an official comment or interview from Rockie Zinger on the deal hear shortly. Stay tuned for more

  4. Future mean nothing, that's what they are futures, they still have to be signed. Let's all say Dayton Reinboldt. Or did Landon Robin already send a message to the Klippers when he said no thanks this year?

  5. Exactly prospects are just that prospects, they might as well have got a bucket of pucks.

  7. For the amount of complaining about this club and this coach i can't beleive that there are still empty spots on the board. I guess people find it easier to point fingers than do any of the work involved with keeping this team running. Just my observation. Good luck to Wheaton and Taylor. Mark Elliott.

  9. SASKATCHEWAN JUNIOR A HOCKEY MANDATE:" TO PROVIDE SASKATCHEWAN JUNIOR HOCKEY PLAYERS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE AT AN ELITE LEVEL WHILE STRIVING TO ACHIEVE THEIR EDUCATIONAL AND CAREER GOALS." WHAT IS HAPPENING IN KINDERSLEY? ARE WE PROUD OF WHAT WE ARE DOING TO THIS GROUP OF YOUNG MEN? WHO IS COMING TO SCOUT US? HAS OUR COACH BEEN PROACTIVE IN MARKETING OUR REMAINING PLAYERS TO THE NEXT LEVEL? THEY HAVE BEEN BEATEN DOWN SO BAD THIS YEAR AND TOLD "YOU DONT COMPETE". THAT IS WRONG AND SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED BY THE BOARD,THE SPONSORS,THE FANS, THE PARENTS AND MOST OF ALL THIS TEAM OF HOCKEY PLAYERS THEY DESERVE MORE.

  10. On behalf of our entire family, we would like to thank the Klippers organization for everything they did for Taylor over his two and a half seasons in Kindersley. From the management group, the coaches, the training staff and all the fans, we can't thank you enough. He loved his time there and we always enjoyed coming out for games.

To his billets, Garth and Gail MacDonald and family, what can we say. You provided a true home away from home and for that we are indebted. To some of Taylor's closest friends in Kindersley, Riley Down (and your family), DJ McGrath (and your family), thanks for being there. To his "little brother", Riley Kennedy, thanks for always getting Wazy pumped up. Kimmer, Taylor appreciated all your hard work a great deal - thank you. To the great fans of the Klippers, thank you for supporting him. We hope you'll continue to support the boys! Sambo, thanks for letting Taylor work in the place he loves the most, the rink! Stu at CCC, thanks for your support.

Finally, to Ullsy, you are a pro and we wish you much success in your career!

At the end of the day, all we have left are memories. Taylor is grateful he will always have great ones of Kindersley!

  11. Klipperman,
Landon Robin has decided he's going to BC so the Klippers did the right thing and decided to try and get something for him. Guess he figures that's where all the scholarships are. He could be in for a rude awakening!

  12. To Mr Elliot as fans of this franchise we have a right to complain when things go as wrong as they have this year. As much as we should applaud when things go great. If you want people to stop complaining, then do what needs to be done and make some changes.I think everyone in Kindersley can see that something has to be done.

The BCHL is also famous for offering fairly good pay to their players. I expected as much with Robin, as probably will happen with another of our trades Statchuk.

  14. Klipperman,
You are right to some extent about the BCHL paying better BUT, they lure players out there with the smoke and mirrors that if a player wants a scholarship he has to be in BC. Simply not true. Many players have come back to Alberta or Saskatchewan after receiving nothing other than false promises.

To the second last poster. Please outline your point by point solution to the current situation as you see it. I would suggest that if the situation is the same at Christmas next year then yes changes should be made. Not now.
