Before I get into my reactions on day one, I would like to give a big thanks to all the parents that came up to me this evening and said they really are enjoying this blog and for welcoming me in to Kinderlsey. That really means alot and was much appreciated.
Now on to the hockey action.
I'm likely going to be all over the place with this but I started out counting how many guys were on the official roster for game one which I counted 35. Larry confirmed that forty were in deed invited out and we can expect a few new faces over the next couple of days of camp.
My first impression of what was actually taking place on the ice was wow! At first I thought it was the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League since they not only impressed me that much but the Klippers were all wearing Moose practice jerseys that Larry scooped up free of charge.
Never seeing any of these players play before hand made it tough to identify which players were which. No player on the ice looked out of place and that includes the 16 and 17 year old kids.
The first player I really started to notice was Kurt Leedahl , this guy looks ready to play. Heads up all the time , great vision and hockey sense when breaking out of the zone. This guy will be a SJHL stud on the blue line this season. What impressed me the most about him was the fact that he was helping out all the younger guys on the ice by pointing them into position on the ice. He should be a huge leader on the team this year.
After I got over how skilled Leedahl was my eyes were drawn to the big guns up front. Dommett , Calkins , and Adamyk. These guys can play, and will likely be the top line in the entire SJHL this season. According to Rod Perkins the three of them plan on finishing 1,2,3 in scoring this season. That's a tough bill to pay , but they did look great out there tonight making great tic tac toe passes that left your jaw dropped.
A few other forwards that really stood out for me were Sanfred King , Taylor Duzan , Tanner Exner , and Jesse Mysiorek.
King looked strong on the puck all night. I asked president Rod Perkins if he has fully recovered from his injury last season , and Rod confirmed he is 100 percent and had put on 10-15 pounds of muscle. He also scored a beauty goal early on in the 2nd period.
After watching the scrimmage I would say the number one line is set in stone , with three of Mysiorek,Hoffman,Duzan,King,Exner rounding out the top 6.
There are four 92 year born forwards trying out for the team up front and likely only one or two spots open. Gerwing,Gourley,Penner,Long. I noticed bits and pieces of each of their games that I liked, but not enough to speculate who has the inside track. Tomorrow at camp I plan on following those youngsters , aswell as the backend situation alot more further.
The offensive skill on display with this team is sickening to watch in a good way if your a Klipper fan but not if your an opposing team fan.
I will be able to break down my thoughts on all the players one by one as camp moves along. There will be some hard faught battles throughout the rest of camp with these players if they want to dawn the Klippers jersey this season.
Ill have the scoring summary up early tommorow morning and also hopefully get up an interview I had with coach Wintoneak after day one wrapped up. Im still having troubles putting up audio.
More to come....
