Just had a chance to talk to Larry who has been vigorously working the phones and will continue to do so today.
First To The Shocking News
Scotty Hellyer has quit and left the Klippers team. Apparently he didn't have the desire to play hockey anymore. It came as a huge surprise to both Larry and the players on the team.
Secondly The Trade Front
Pearce Gourley and Beau Taylor have been dealt from the club and did not skate this morning.
At this time it is for future considerations as Larry continues to work the phones to finalize a goaltender deal.
At this point they will be heading on the road trip with only one goaltender which clearly will have to change maybe with a goaltender emergency call up if nothing gets done.
On To The Really Good News For The Klippers
They have hired an assistant coach.
His name is Rocky Zinger , he may be familiar with many as he is originally from the area. Larry sheds light in the interview below.
He coached in the KIJHL for the Golden Rockets for a number of years and also spent some time in Calgary. Larry was very happy with the hire and mentioned that he previously had talks with Rocky at the start of the season to join the club.
Had a chance to chat with Larry after the morning skate and here is that interview. Great information and insight from Larry on the deals and his reaction to Scotty Hellyer leaving the club.
Larry Wintoneak On The Trades and More
Other Tid Bits.
Larry mentioned that Riley Down will be moved back up front leaving 7 dmen on the backend.
Also he mentioned that the club is still exploring the option of bringing Braedan Johnson back to the club. Larry mentioned that it is still a possibility that he gets released from the Blades and if he does he will be welcomed to the club.
More to come later on today. I will try and get a hold of Larry later tonight once things settle down , I am extremly busy right now.
Who have the players been traded to? Also heard that Birch from Battlefords is on the block, hes good, could we see him in a Klipper outfit?
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to Pearce, Beau and Scotty. Good hockey players, great young men!
ReplyDeleteLarry did not say to who yet , he is still trying to finalize the deals at this point. Hope to have more on this shortly. As for Birch , that could be a possibility but I dont expect the Klippers to trade with a rival like the North Stars. I cant really see the Stars wanting to make the Klippers a better team but who knows. Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteThe other comment I agree completly. All 3 were great kids and very good hockey players. Pearce Gourley will be a force in Junior A hockey very shortly in my opinion. Hellyer was really starting to come into form and Beau Taylor has been a really solid fwd for the Klippers. Its a tough situation up front with so many talented kids. Good to see that they will have a place to play this season.
