Also Humboldt continues its dominance, I knew this team looked good in pre season action when the Klippers made the trip to Humboldt for the preseason tilt , but I didnt think they were this good. They are ranked number one in Canada back to back weeks. I cant wait to see them play the Klippers.
Check back later I have Taylor Wasdens player profile to put up on the blog , and I have found Braeden Adamyks player profile aswell so I will post that one up from the Battlefords game broadcast.
Below is the SJHL Press Release....

The Humboldt Broncos are showing no signs of slowing down, but several teams are starting to show that they are more than capable of taking the SJHL’s top spot if they should stumble.
For the second straight week, the Canadian Junior “A” Hockey League has ranked the Broncos as the number one team in Canada. They only played twice over the last week taking three out of a possible four points as they beat Nipawin while losing in a shootout to the Battlefords.
The hottest team in the league over the past week may be the Melfort Mustangs. The Mustangs won three of four games with all three coming on the road. The wins in Estevan, Weyburn and Notre Dame have Coach Darrell Mann feeling very good. He said it says something about his team when they can go into some tough buildings in the other conference and get positive results in what were three very tough hockey games. The Mustangs haven’t taken on Humboldt in regular season play, but Mann feels his team can compete with the Broncos and he is looking forward to taking them on later this month in a home and home series.
One of the reasons for the optimism in Melfort is the play of Charles Corsi. The 20 year old goaltender came to Melfort just after the regular season started and Mann says he has been a blessing.
“Unbelievable,” Mann says. “He has given us so much confidence. He reminds us of Grant Fuhr. He’s the type of guy that maybe isn’t the best goalie in the league, but he is a guy that you know isn’t going to let the next goal in and allows us to battle back and be successful in one goal hockey games.”
The La Ronge Ice Wolves are also on fire right now. Like the Mustangs, the Ice Wolves won three straight on the road as they beat the Mustangs in Melfort along with taking out both Melville and Yorkton. La Ronge has only played nine games, but they have won six of them and with the arrival of Logan Herauf, they have gained a lot offensively as he has contributed with five points in his first six games.
While Melfort and La Ronge are hot right now, the Yorkton Terriers have gone cold. The Terriers were the number 5 ranked team in Canada, but losses at home to Weyburn, Estevan and the Ice Wolves have cooled the Terriers off. They are now ready to go on a nine game road trip that will test their mettle as they try and stay atop the Sherwood Conference.
SHERWOOD PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Doug Lindensmith- La Ronge Ice Wolves
The 1990 born forward from Sterling Heights, Michigan is the second member of the Ice Wolves to be named a player of the week as he joins Marc-Andre Carre as members of the defending Credit Union Cup champs to be recognized with POTW honours. Lindensmith had three goals and four assists in four games as the Ice Wolves start moving up the board in the Bauer Conference
SHERWOOD DEFENCEMAN OF THE WEEK – Sam Gilbert – Melfort Mustangs
The Mustangs are playing well right across the board right now. The 1990 born blueliner from Montreal helped Melfort on their successful road trip by contributing four assists in three games while holding the opposition to just nine goals over those three games.
SHERWOOD GOALIE OF THE WEEK – Charles Corsi-Melfort Mustangs
Corsi wins the weekly award for the second time this season. The 1990 born goalie from Rosemere, Quebec has been more than a pleasant addition for the Mustangs. Corsi is 7-1-1 on the season with a goals against average of 2.73. If he keeps playing the way he has been, the Mustangs will go a long way this season.
POWER RANKINGS
- 1. HUMBOLDT BRONCOS – How can you argue against the Broncos when they have the best record in the league and are the number one ranked team in Canada.
- 2. LA RONGE ICE WOLVES - The Ice Wolves haven’t played the amount of games that other teams have, but they are 6-3 and are showing they have the talent early on to take a good run at trying to repeat as SJHL champs. The arrival of Logan Herauf has paid early dividends as he joins a talented group of forwards
- 3. MELFORT MUSTANGS - Darrell Mann can’t say enough good things about his club right now. His club is doing a lot of good things right now so there shouldn’t be any complaining in Melfort
- 4. ESTEVAN BRUINS – The Bruins went 2-1 this week with one of those losses being a home defeat at the hands of Melfort. Shea Cooper has shown the Bruins have a good 1-2 punch in net as he compliments Joel Danyluk.
- 5. KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS – Larry Wintoneak has already assembled a competitive squad. That squad got better this week with the addition of homegrown product D Jay McGrath.
- 6. YORKTON TERRIERS – The team didn’t want to go out on a nine game road trip having lost their last three at home but that is what happened. When you do that, you take a slide down the old power rankings
- 7. NIPAWIN HAWKS – The Hawks did what a lot of teams have done this year this past week in losing to Humboldt, but they did beat a strong La Ronge team. This Hawks team is very balanced and like many other teams in the SJHL is tough to beat on any given night. They are home for three this week so they could make a move.
- 8. FLIN FLON BOMBERS – The Bombers split home games with Kindersley this week. Its tough to have this team rise or fall from last week when they only played twice.
- 9. BATTLEFORD STARS – It looked like Ken Pearson’s team was starting to turn it around after a shootout win over the Broncos and a win in Weyburn, but they followed that up with losses to Estevan and Notre Dame. It’s a case of one step forward and maybe a step and a half back.
- 10. WEYBURN RED WINGS – The team is having problems finding a goaltender they are comfortable with. Is Minnesota native Logan Marks the answer?
- 11. NOTRE DAME HOUNDS – Its been said before and it will be said again. There might be no better defensive team in the SJHL than the Hounds, but the team in most desperate need of offence are the Hounds. If they can find a couple of goalscorers, they will move up this board in a big hurry. They are in tough this week though as they play three in Nipawin, Flin Flon and La Ronge which won’t be easy.
- 12. MELVILLE MILLIONAIRES – As was the case last week and as is the case every week, someone has to be last in what is a very competitive league. Ranking the Millionaires 12th might not be fair this week, but they only played once losing to La Ronge. The Millionaires need some consistency to their game to start getting some W’s.
