Well what a crazy game that was. We were in for a wild one right from the drop of the puck.
After 20 minutes we were notted at 3, but right from the start of the second period the Klippers got into penalty trouble.
It all started when Godric Tham caught Johnny Calkins with a questionable hit just inside the Klipper blueline. Riley Down would then go after Tham. Tham wanted none of Down and didn't fight, which caused Down to get seven minutes of penalties. After that John Sonntag would take a cross checking penalty and the Mills would get a 5 on 3 for a full two minutes. The Klippers PK was awesome and killed off the 5 on 3 but still had a ton of 5 on 4 to kill and would surrender a goal. Taylor Duzna would also add a shorty during that span , which was his 3rd short handed goal in the past two games.
After that it had looked like the Klippers had settled the storm but Cody Lund would take a hooking penalty moments after and then got an extra two for unsportsmanlike. Melville would take advantage this time and score on both penalties to give the Mills a 6-4 lead.
Now you might think the Klippers would fall down and give up after that flurry of penalties, but that was the exact opposite of what they did. Duzan would score his hat trick marker just before the period would end to give the Klippers life heading into the third frame.
Right off the bat 48 seconds in Taylor Duzan would tie it up at 6 with his fourth gino on the night. The Klippers dominated the third period and outshoot Melville 15-3 in that frame but found themselves fighting to get the equalizer near the end when Jesse Mysiorek would score his hat trick marker at the 14:55 mark.
We then headed to OT action where the Klippers controlled most of the play but a bad giveaway in their own end sent Cody Hanson in alone and he went five hole on Dustin Nickel for the victory.
The Klippers may have lost that game giving up 8 goals , but their is a ton of positives to build from this game. First off the Klippers fired 51 shots on goal , if the Klippers wouldn't of had penalty trouble they likely would of had 60 plus shots.
The way the Klippers fought back shows a ton of team character. Most teams would of been down and out after having to kill so many penalties.
Just a few more thoughts here on Taylor Duzan.
He has been on a tear the past two games. He scored two against Nipawin and also the shootout winner, and of course last night had four goals and two apples. This is no surprise to see Duzzy scoring at will as he was on fire early on to start the season aswell. He had a 7 game goal streak at one point early on and is looking even better right now. His linemates of Jesse Mysiorek and Jordon Hoffman have also been great and that line is showing great chemistry once again. They are three of the hardest workers in the SJHL and can just dominate teams on the fore check.
Overall a ton to build on from the lose for the Klippers. It will be interesting to see what kind of game we get Saturday night in the rematch at the WCEC. Melville will also play Battlefords tonight, for their 2nd of three straight games.
Here is post game reaction from the hat trick kids and coach Rockie Zinger...

61 penalty minutes do you think that maybe that was a huge factor in the outcome of this game. Maybe some disciplined hockey would bring better results
ReplyDeleteWell more dicipline wasnt really the issue, the issue was the referee who was absolutely horrible. I dont think I have ever seen a poorer performance by an official.
ReplyDeletePretty sure I saw Gelowitz driving the Melville bus as they pulled out of the lot after the game last night. If he took his game money the RCMP should charge him with theft! That was by far the worst officiating I have ever seen, at any level, EVER, end of story. He should do the honorable thing and retire! And we thought Paulsen was bad! Mr. Gelowitz, you need to take a good look in the mirror and ask youself if you are satisfied with the job you did last night in Kindersley? If the answer is yes... you need to get a new mirror!
ReplyDeleteWow Idid not know that we were unable to hear the game so we just had to watch the score board hopefully we get better reffing tonite. It would sure be good to see the Klippers get on a winning streak
