Show Case Weekend : Klippers Vs Battlefords

Sorry I didn't post anything yesterday , we had the entire day off in Regina and I did not have lap top access. I want to give a big thanks to Johnny Calkins father and mother for driving us all back from the mall to the bus. We had 10 guys stuffed in one truck load it was pretty wild. Anyways on to the showcase.

Its a very exciting weekend for the 2010 SJHL showcase. Alot of very talented players in the SJHL get a chance to showcase their talents , with scouts from the NHL , NCAA , CIS all in attendance. Andrew Dommett put on a show at last years showcase scoring what I was told six goals in two games and had the scouts lining up to talk to him. This time around some other players are looking to land NCAA scholarships and it starts with twenty year old players such as Johnny Calkins , Kurt Leedahl and Johnathon Sonntag.

Johnny Calkins is such a talented player I would be shocked if he didn't get a look from a NCAA team. When he is going , no one can stop him. He has taken over hockey games at times this season and I would say he is the front runner to land a scholarship from the Klippers this weekend. Kurt Leedahl and Sonntag a close second.

Some of the 19 and 18 year olds will get a chance to show themselves and could also land a scholarship for next season or get a few scouts talking and land one in the future.

Its a tough break for a few Klippers who have past WHL experience as it basically singles out their chances of signing with a NCAA college , but they could still impress the CIS scouts if any are in attendance.

Despite all this individual talk the players still need to play a team game as these two games are very important league games for the Kindersley Klippers.

The Klippers lifted a huge load off their shoulders with a big road win in a very tough barn in Estevan Wednesday night. The Klippers played very solid hockey from start the finish. Snapping their road slump was huge heading into the showcase.

Now this game is considered a road game for the Klippers but its essentially a neutral game since its against Battlefords.

The Klippers have had success against the Stars so far this season as they look to continue that success tonight. The Stars are certainly a better team then they were in the first month of the year but have lost their last 3 contests.

A few more game notes

- The Klippers powerplay needs to be much better then it was in Estevan. I know its a tough barn to operate a power play since its such a small ice surface but the Klippers had to 5 on 3s and couldn't capitalize.

- Sean Cahill is likely confident after getting his first SJHL win in net , I look for him to have a very solid show case , he was very good in Estevan.

- Jordon Hoffman is likely to return tonight for the Klippers and this is a huge boost for the club who certainly missed his presence on the ice.

- I will be interesting to see if Tanner Kissick gets back in the lineup tonight. He was very good against Estevan but with Hoffman likely back we will have to see.

- Johnathon Sonntag is coming off a huge tilt the other night in which he won hands down. Both his fights this season have been huge heavy weight tilts in which he has won both.  Would love to see him drop them tonight against the Stars who are one of the Klippers biggest rivals.

- The Klippers will need to focus on playing a solid team game despite all the scouts in attendance if they want to win tonights hockey game.

In other news the Klippers did make a release during the December 1st deadline to bring their roster to 23 players. Out of respect to that player I don't feel it be necessary to announce if until we return from the road trip. I am sure some people know but I wont announce it until we return home.

We will have the broadcast tonight with pre game starting at 4:45 on Classic Hits radio and streaming online at   http://asx.abacast.com/kindersleyklippers-live-32.asx

Let me know which Klipper you feel is most deserving of a NCAA scholarship.....
