I have been hearing strong rumors all day long about Tanner Exner leaving the club. I have now confirmed with a few players that he has indeed left the team. Details are limited right now on why he left but I will try and contact Larry Wintoneak early tomorrow morning for the full details.
More to come....
I have read allot of comments here and I think its time I chimed in. I don't know the reasons for these players leaving the team, but something doesn't seem right. My biggest problem is what happened to Peck. To drop a player on the road like that is classless. I also agree with the poster who said that they should have started the rookie goalie in the showcase. He has played very well and deserved a chance to show his stuff. We were told that this team should compete for the league championship, but they sure look like a team with no direction. Let's hope they can get it together soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. I am not sure as well why some of these players have quit, but I do know that not every player is commited. It takes a large commitment level to play hockey at the junior A level and not everyone has that commitment level which is what I think happened here with Exner. I go on the road , I am around the team at all times and everyone seems fine.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rookie goalie not getting a chance in the show case. He has just come off an injury and starting him against the hottest team in the league in Flin Flon probably wasnt the best bet. You could of made a case for him against the Battlefords but Cahill gives them the best chance to win and the Klippers need to win at this point , simple as that.
I agree he needs to get a look here soon , but Cahill is the clear number one and the Klippers are so tight in the sherwood standings that you need to play your best goalie.
On Peck it was a tough situation where the team thought they could deal him by the deadline. Unfortunately they could not and had no other choice but to drop him.
The season is just at the mid way point and sure the Klippers have underachieved but they still have a good change to turn things around. They are right in the mix in the Sherwood and might be to far back from first but second place is certainly in their reach.
Fair enough. Thanks for the comments. Let's get it together klippers!
ReplyDeleteBrenden, believe me when I say I appreciate your position on all things Klipper and understand your defending decisions but I gotta comment on some of the things you said, and understand comment only, I'm not saying I'm right your wrong just commenting. Looking at the stats right now both McDonald and Cahill have the exact same record in wins vs losses at 1-4 so to say Cahill gave them the best chance is not exactly right or fair. I realise hockey at this level is not about making sure all the players get equal ice time like in younger levels but when a weekend is organized like this then all things being equal give the guy who hasn't had a chance to show his stuff to these scouts the opportunity. This isn't the NHL, there are still levels above to strive for which all of these guys want to do, except perhaps for guys like Hellyer or Exner whose reasons for their choice I don't know so won't comment on beyond that.
ReplyDeleteAs for the injury, that was back in late October early November, he has recovered now I'm sure and likely a long time before the showcase. Unless there was a second injury that wasn't mentioned.
One last thing, I think only 2 teams in the whole showcase weekend did not give both goalies an opportunity to be seen, Kindersley was one of them.
Again, I think you do a great job Ullsy, I'm not saying you don't, but this is another point of view that I think merits some consideration as well.

ReplyDeleteJay you make some great points.
ReplyDeleteAs for Cahill the stat sheet is wrong as he has two wins for the Klippers. One vs Flin Flon which he was great in and another against Estevan which he was equally as good. A few of Cahills loses he has played great in aswell.
The thing with Cahill is all his starts have come on the road in which his team really strugles. He has yet to start on home ice where the Klippers play their best.
On Mcdonald I agree that it would of been good to give him a start but also see where Larry came from by giving Cahill both starts.
I think Mac has alot of potential and will be a very solid goaltender and will get his chance here shortly.
I have been on the road for all of Cahills starts and he is very good. Their is a reason he already has a schlorship for the NCAA. Alot of fans are going to be surpised when they see how good he really is on home ice at the WCEC.

ReplyDeleteDoes Ullrich's roll as an amature play by play dude qualify him to judge the commitment of players on the ice. Exner has dedicated years of his youth to hockey and fought his way through all kinds of adversity to achieve this level of success!! Who is this guy to judge him??????
ReplyDeleteWell this much is for certain, you have seen a lot more games than I have so I'll take your word for it, at the end of the day I just wanna see some wins on the board for the Klippers so long as that starts happening I and I think most others will be happy. Keep up the good work Brenden.
ReplyDeleteps: I don't think your head is anywhere it shouldn't be. ;)
Good Luck Tanner, too bad the Klippers coaching staff were not as committed to you as you were to the success of the team.
ReplyDeleteAs for the comment about me critizizing Exner by know means was I singling him out. I made a comment in general about the commitment level of some players playing in the SJHL maybe not being there. Exner was a very solid hockey player and one thing that's forsure is he will be missed on the ice. As for me having my head up my ass that's your opinion I guess, And your right I do have to watch what I say but by no means am I not saying what my matter is on the situation
ReplyDeleteWho are you to question the commitment of any player.

ReplyDeleteCould people please watch what they are saying. I may have to delete some of these comments as the blog is on the Klippers website and I do work for the team. I dont have to have a Klippers blog up , I do it for people to get up to date Klippers information. If comments like this continue I will have to disable comments. You are titled to your opionions but please keep them clean.
ReplyDeletebrenden, cahill does have a scholarship yes. But you need to look deeper into that scholarship. he has COMMITTED to alaska, nothing has happened yet. His scholarship has also been deferred not once, but twice. alaska hands out lots of scholarships so not to say they are an easy team to get one with, but its not always as impressive as it sounds. lots of players in junior hockey right now can say they have commited to alaska.
ReplyDeleteas for exner, i am sad to see him go, i will miss seeing his energy on the ice. from what i heard he was a great kid and it seemed like he was well liked on the team. not sure why he left but im guessing he has his reasons.
I'd like to know what the Klippers board of directors are thinking with the departure of another promising player?
ReplyDeleteI would hope that the board would aware of internal problems. If they are I would think that they would do something about it. People are questioning things because of the players who leave. I am sure that the board are also in contact with players for coaching evaluations.
ReplyDeleteThis is directed to Brenden Ullrich: Your getting caught up in your own lies. You stated "that it takes a large commitment level to play hockey at the Junior A level and not everyone has that commitment level which is what I think happened here with Exner". Now you state "that you were by no means singling Exner out for lack of commitment". You should be man enough to at least stand behind your comments even if you don't have any idea what's going on. Hopefully the Board of Directors read you comments.
ReplyDeleteIt is really unfortunate that the head coach didn't show the commitment to Exner that Exner showed to him and the Klippers.
ReplyDeleteOk first of all if you would have read the earlier post which brenden was talking about he mentioned that there is a commitment level that is needed to play in the SJHL and that Exner was one of them. He was singled out as one of the guys among many who didnt have that drive, Hellyer being another guy. This doesnt reflect the coaching it reflects the lack of commitment of players. These are guys who spend their weekends partying all night long and were just along for the ride. Larry is a hard nose but he knows what hes doing, why else would he be head coach of Team Canada in the Junior A Challenge. The intensity of the coaching would be hard to deal with when the desire to play isnt there. Ive talked with players and they say that Larry knows his stuff and has made them better players. Not sure where people get the notion that he is the problem but I strongly disagree.
ReplyDeleteI am the same age group as these kids and absolutely it takes a large commitment to play Junior A hockey is where I am going with my comments about commitment. If your 19 , 20 and you realize that hockey might not be a future career for you , then you lose passion for the game. These kids arent in the NHL and alot of them might have a change of direction in what they want in life.
ReplyDeleteAs for the guy calling me a liar. How was that by any means a lie. I said that may have been the case with Exner. Again those comments were general for players in Junior A hockey. How was that in any menas directed soley at Exner. Not every kid in the world has the passion to play hockey 6 or 7 days a week. As a kid your away from home , your not working , It is easy to realize why some one may lose their passion for the game of hockey.
To the LARRY lover that just posted that Larry is a good coach , I wonder where you get your information from . Larry is the first coach NOT to win with the Canada West team . Larry has lost control of the team ! You need to earn respect from your players , not think you can beat it out of them . When this many kids want out of Kindersley the problem is clearly with the coach . Larry is a huge underachiever ,reason being the kids dont want to play for him . I played in the sjhl for Rob Daum . The whole time I played for him he never raised his voice at us and he was coach of the year , imagine that . Thats not to say we didnt know when he was mad at us cause we knew ! Rob went on from the sjhl to the WHL to the Alberta Golden Bear ,where he coached them to a couple of national championships , to the NHL with the Oilers , and now he is in the AHL . This is something Larry could only dream of . Larry needs to be FIRED ! A change is needed badly!!!!!
ReplyDeleteConsider this KK leads the league in penalties and majors. they are a talented team but need to stop the stupud penalties. I watched the Vernon Vipers last year and can assure you that they won with skill and speed not majors.
ReplyDeleteWell im not sure what Larry ever did to you but im thinking you might be just a little biased. Sure I see your point with the styles of coaching but I think there is room for both Larrys and Robs styles. You can talk all day about coaches from both ends of the spectrum who have made it to the NHL and found success. You talk like this team is in last place and out of a playoff spot. Ive watched every home game this season and the team plays very well under Larry especially of late and they seem to have gotten some of the road problems out of the way in their last four games. Now with Dommett returning and Cahill in net I think second place in the Sherwood could be a reality. Exner left because hes been playing on the fourth line and even sat out on the road trip to make room for the rookies who have shown to play very well so far this season. Hes a guy who spent time in the WHL and is now playing his last season back in Junior and im sure that Larry and him didnt get along but Larry will continue to coach this team and they will have success.
ReplyDeleteLarry never did anything to me its easy to see he is the problem . The facts are , Exner is 19 not 20 as you said , without the turmoil LARRY causes this talented club would be in the hunt for first place , not sitting at 500. I agree theres lots of time left to turn it around , Larry wont be able to do it , his club clearly need a change . Maybe Zinger could turn them around . Im a big Klippers fan and I am clearly not the only one who thinks Larry needs to go . Larry must have caught you do doing something .
ReplyDeleteI know Exners not 20 but ive been told hes going to University next year so this was his last year. I guess we will disagree on Larry and only time will tell wether or not this team will thrive under him or not. Larry hasnt caught me doing anything fortunately lol but I havent lost hope in his abilities.
