Klippers Extend Win Streak Into 2011

Well the motto on the Klippers team right now is 7 is better than 6 , and now they are hoping on Thursday that 8 will be better than 7.

It's somewhat of an overstatement to say the Klippers got right back to where they left off in 2010 , because it was evident in the first period that they had a bit of rust and some turkey legs. This was much expected as the Klippers were not in game action for fifteen days. They had practiced three times, but a game situation is much different. The Klippers though , still controlled the play through twenty minutes , but the game remained scoreless after 20.

It didn't take the Klippers long though to get their legs back under them , as they came out and played what you could call a perfect twenty minutes of hockey. The Klippers were lethal in the second frame in all areas of the ice. On the rush , on the forcheck , the battles along the wall , the special teams, you name it , the Klippers executed it to perfection in the second period.

The Klippers would get on the board early , as D Jay McGrath walked in and fooled Russell Abbott from just inside the blue line. From their the Klippers would take a penalty , but that didn't stop their momentum as they had two or three great chances on the PK. After that the Klippers got their chance on the powerplay and executed it perfectly. The Klippers had trouble in the first period on the pp , but a few minor tweeks opened up things for them. They made some quick passing which lead to Johnny Calkins being able to walk in, unprotested into the high slot and rip one five hole past Abbott.

After the PP the Klippers would continue to role , as D Jay McGrath would cash on a empty net tap in for his second of the game, after Andrew Dommett rung one right off the goal post.

The Klippers fourth goal would come late in the period , again on the powerplay , and this one was a just a snipe show. Braeden Adamyk was basically on the goal line on the ride side when Calkins spotted him , from their he snipped one from what I though was an impossible angle , but Adamyk didnt think so and cashed a beauty to give the Klippers a four goal coushin.

In the third period it seemed like the Klippers might have gotten a bit to cozy as the Hounds really started to take it to the Klippers. The team works hard , but really has trouble scoring. Sean Cahill was great for the Klippers in the third , making a few ridiculous saves on route to a 29 save shutout performance. For Cahill this was his first since arriving in the SJHL.

The Klippers now have won seven in a row, have the next two games at home against the bottom two teams in the Sherwood, and are suddenly starting to close in on Yorkton for first place. If the Klippers can manage to win the next two at home , then the game in Yorkton is going to be a huge showdown. We may be getting ahead of ourselves but I know the players and coaching staff have first place set as their season goal. We will have to wait and see, but the Klippers will host the Hounds once again tomorrow night at the WCEC which will be the Hounds third game in three nights.

I have a few interviews from last night's game.....
