Klippers Steal Spotlight From Boyer and Buzzeo With 5-2 Win In Yorkton

Klippers 5 - Terriers 2

The Klippers might have played their best game of the season tonight in Yorkton. Buzzeo and Boyer were solid, but the Klippers stole the spotlight from them. It was a very solid effort from the entire team. Without Dommett and S.King, a number of players stepped up against a really good Yorkton team.

This game truly was a full sixty minute effort from the entire Klipper squad. When you’re without those two players, someone needs to step up and a number of players did.

On the back end, Kurt Leedahl was a stud. He was the best player on the ice last night and was awarded first star. Leedahl really didn’t allow the killer b line to get anything going whenever he was on the ice. He moved the puck well, was great on the PK and also pitched in with a goal and an apple. I have to shout out the effort from Casey Rogers and David Haaf also in this one. Both were given lots of ice time, and took advantage of it. They really gave the Klippers some big minutes last night.

Up front the offense was clicking. All three rookies, Elliot, Gerwing and Kissick drew in and all three gave the Klippers a good sixty minute effort.

Calkins and Adamyk continued their rapid pace both pitching in with two point nights. The third member of that line was Wheaton King who made his SJHL debut. Wheaton had not been playing a whole lot in Brandon but he really didn’t show any signs of rust. He was thrown in on the top line and played a great game He is a big guy, can protect the puck really good down low, he goes to the tough areas, and he’s not afraid to throw or take a hit. He also has a really good skill set to boot and complimented Calkins and Adamyk well. What a debut it was for Wheaton who would score the game winning goal and also contribute with an apple.

In net Sean Cahill really rebounded after a tough start at home on Saturday. His play in net on the PK was outstanding. The Terriers had a number of power plays but couldn’t capitalize.

The Klippers you could tell really wanted this game. Everyone competed from start to finish and in the end the Klippers played what I thought was their best game of the season. Their PK was great and the team really didn’t make any glaring mistakes the entire sixty minutes. A ton of confidence is likely built after a win like that last night.

Just a quick note on Boyer and Buzzeo for the Terriers. These guys are scary good. They made some beautiful plays and are lethal on the rush. The one thing I really noticed is they were trying to make things to cute at times, especially on the power play. Overall though they had a great debut and should be huge for Yorkton down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Turning to tonight’s game the Klippers will have a morning skate here in Yorkton before heading over to Melville. Sanfred King will skate and will likely be a game time decision in Melville. As for Dommett, he didn’t make the trip due to the flu, but it sounds like he will rejoin the team on Friday. As for Zane Morin it  sounds like he will join the team on Friday and likely dress this weekend.

The Melville Millonairs are a somewhat scary team that have had the Klippers number at time this season. They are a team full of young talent. On Saturday they snapped the Klippers winning streak in their own barn and tonight the Klippers will look to get revenge in Melvills barn.

I will have more news and notes leading up to tonight's game on twitter. Just keep an eye on the twitter updates in the top right corner.

Here a few post game interviews.
