Trade Deadline Day ! Braeden Johnson On His Way ? Ryan Benn Out

As I reported earlier on twitter, a strong source has informed me that Braeden Johnson from the Saskatoon Blades has been released and will likely be coming to the Kindersley Klippers. Now I have yet to confirm this with Rockie Zinger who is vigorously working the phones with the deadline approaching. If Johnson comes in, another player gets bumped back.

Ryan Benn who was on the outside looking in has asked for his release from the club. I can confirm he will go and play Junior B out in Spruce Grove, his home town. I have a ton of buddies who play Junior B in that leauge for the Beverly Warriors, things could get interesting out in the Edmonton area haha! As for Benny best of luck, he was really close with a ton of the players on the team, and will be missed. I got to know Benny fairly well over my time here with the team and I would like to personally wish him the best of luck. I had a chance to talk to him a short while ago, and he was really torn about the decision, but felt it was best for himself and for the team moving forward.

More to come, check my twitter feed if you want to hear the news first!

Well who is excited for the SJHL trade deadline, I know I am !

With the deadline looming, some SJHL players are likely very nervous today as at any second they could receive a call from their head coach telling them they have been traded. That's the beauty of the trade deadline!!

The latest deal to come down the pipe involves Mathew Spafford. The Nipawin Hawks leading scorer has just been dealt to the Dauphin Kings in the MJHL. No shocker to see Spafford dealt, he is a very skilled player that could have helped any teams offense. More details on that trade at

Two players that are likely very excited this morning are Cody Hanson and Brayden Metz who have been reunited in Melfort. Metz had already been acquired a few days back by Melfort, but now they have brought in Cody Hanson. The Mustangs look scary at this point with a great goaltender and a very solid scoring attack. Hanson and Metz are two of the best fwds in the SJHL, will likely compliment each other very well  and will make Melfort that much better.

A few other teams sitting in the woods at this point in time include Weyburn, Estevan, La Ronge and Battlefords , who are likely looking to do something.

In terms of the Klippers at this point another trade is likely to be made with 10 20 year old players on the roster. I would be shocked if the Klippers made another trade for a forward, but an upgrade on the back end is likely in the works. I have tried to call Rockie Zinger twice this morning but have yet to get any word back from him. As of last night he had nothing to report and felt very comfortable with his team up front.

As for Braaten he will likely make the upcoming road trip with the team, but won't dress until the end of January.

I will be updating the twitter feed as trades go down. If the Klippers do anything big, I will keep you updated on the blog. Feel free to comment on the blog about the Braaten trade, what you think the Klippers should do and also on the other SJHL deals !
