Yorkton Downs Kindersley 7-2 In Game One Of Sherwood FInal

A rough start to the best of 7 Sherwood Final for the Kindersley Klippers.

Yorkton came out firing right off the faceoff and would take it to the Klippers in the opening 20 minutes. They had a ton of jump on the rush and were creating chances from everywhere on the ice. In terms of the Klippers they appeared to be running around off the start and had trouble getting the puck out of their own end. They were throwing alot of pucks up the middle that resulted in costly turnovers. It certainly wasn’t the start they were hoping for. In the second period though it was a different story as Kindersley would do what Yorkton did to them in the first. It was a great bounce back effort by the Klippers who would draw to within one on a powerplay marker by Spencer Braaten. Kindersley appeared to have momentum and were all over Yorkton, but Yorkton would answer back with a goal of their own at a very timely time. It seemed like every time Kindersley would get something going, Peters would make a big save and then the Terriers would come right back and score. Kindersley outshot Yorkton 17-6 in the second period but were outscored 2-1 in the frame, and would trail 4-1 after forty. Kindersley had a lengthy 5 on 3 to start the third but didn’t capitalize. I liked their powerplay on the night for the most part, they had their chances but they couldn’t find the back of the net. Capitalizing ultimately was the story of the game. Yorkton took advantage of their chances and the Klippers didn’t. The score would be a final 7-2, but the score certainly didn’t tell the whole story. Kindersley did generate some high quality scoring chances throughout the game, but they did not play a full sixty minutes. To beat the Terriers in game two they will definitely need to get out to a better start and play a full 60. It was a solid statement game right out the gate from the Terriers who showed everyone why they finished first place in the Sherwood Conference. They offense was scary, not only their top two lines, their bottom lines also contributed, Paterson and Murray were great for the Terriers.

Game two will be a tough one for Kindersley as they won’t have the services of their number one center Johnny Calkins, and also will be without Riley Down who received a two game suspension for a hit to the head. The call on the ice was the wrong one as they kicked out David Haaf instead of Downer.

Kindersley will have to get better performances from a lot of players tonight. Despite the loss the team is still in high spirits and confident that they can head back to Kindersley with a split.

Their will likely be some lineup juggling tonight, I will tweet an update closer to game time. Game two goes same time and you can catch the pregame show on Classic Hits Radio at 7:15.
