Klippers Deal Hometown Boy Sean Flanagan In 3 for 1 Deal * Update

My first reaction to this deal was shock. I was about to head to bed late last night but decided to check my work email before doing so and found a press release from head coach Rockie Zinger. Rockie had eluded to some huge news a few days ago, but I did not expect Flanagan to be dealt. I had a short chat with Rockie last night via text message as he is out on the road on a recruiting trip. Rockie said that Flanagan had requested a deal to play outside of his home town and after a lengthy process found the best option for both parties. Going to the BCHL takes off that added pressure of playing in your home town. Sean is one great kid and will be very missed in his home town. I hope to chat with Flanagan sometime today.

The Klippers certainly got a huge return for Flangan, getting back three players for one. Now Sean was likely to be one of the top dmen in the SJHL this season, so you would expect a hefty return. The Klippers receive 20-year old forward Jarryd Ten Vaanholt, 19-year old forward Josh McKissock, and 19-year old dman Justin Elliot.

Vaanholt had a very impressive season with Salmon Arm as a 19 year year old last year. He racked up 50 points in 58 games and you would certainly expect that he will be a point per game or more player for the Klippers this season. This is a bit pre mature but I would anticipate him on a line with D Jay McGrath and Wheaton King this upcoming season.

McKissock registered 5 points in 34 games last season as a 18 year old.

Elliott has 2 points in 44 games on the back end.

Both are coming into their 19 year old campaigns and will likely play a larger roll this season on the Klippers.

I am working on contacting these players or their previous coach to find out more details on them.

For now here are their bios from their team website

  1. So with all these acquistions in the forwards position (Bossovich, Robin, and now these two) how many spots will there be for the kids at the fall camp to compete for?

  2. Don't forget about Reinboldt.

Depth is never a bad thing but I can assume this wont be the final trade before training camp begins.

One thing forsure is training camp is going to be very very competitive which is not a bad thing.
