Klippers Doubled Up By Melville - Showcase Recap

Your post game report is brought to you by....

After a 3-2 vicotry over Flin Flon I thought we would see a much better team effort on Sunday but that wasn't the case. It was another frustrating game after a win by the Kindersley Klippers who have yet to win back to back contests this season. They came out with alot of jump, and would get the games first marker but near the end of the frame they lost that jump and started to get outworked. Kindersley was reeling and appeared to be just waiting for the period to end hoping to get to the break up by 1. With 30 seconds left in the period Melville scored to tie things up and that really took the life out of Kindersley. They came out flat in the second frame like we have seen time after time so far this season. For whatever reason the second period has not been kind to the Klippers. Kindersley would get into penalty trouble and although they went 6 for 6 on the penalty kill it really limited their offensive opportunities. Melville would score 3 in the frame and head to the break up by 2. In the third period it was basically to little to late but Kindersley started to skate again. They had a 5 on 3 powerplay and Mysiorek would put Kindersley within 2. They had a few more solid opportunities on that same powerplay but couldn't beat Wakaluk. It was a good third period but the lackluster second period proved to be costly.

Overall though I would say it was a positive weekend for the Klippers. After losing 5 previous contests snapping the skid was a big feat. The team now has that feeling of winning in the back of their heads and after a loss Sunday should be hungry for that feeling once again come Wednesday back at home.

In terms of the actual showcase, Estevan did an outstanding job hosting the event. Spectra place is a thing of beauty and the Estevan organization put on a flawless weekend. The Estevan organization went above and beyond to runs things as smoothly as they did and all the volunteers should be proud of themselves. I know everyone in the Klippers organization was very thankful of everything the Estevan organization did to accommodate them throughout the weekend. In terms of the facility, it is the best I have seen in Junior A hockey, I will get a few pics up shortly.

Obviously the showcase is a chance for scouts to take a look at certain players. For the Klippers they have alot of young talent and a few vets that were likely on many scouts radar. I felt that on Saturday night Tanner Kissick had a great game and likely came just as advertised. He threw a couple of big hits, took a licking with that scary moment in the second period when he hit the stanchion, came back and scored the tieing goal. If I am a scout what Kissick showed would be exactly what I am looking at for my team. I thought Jordon Hoffman and Jesse Mysiorek both played big roles for Kindersley. One thing you get from Hoffman and Mysiorek is they are always working hard and you would hope the scouts would notice the little things over the flashy things. Hoffman was a key contributor on the penalty kill for Kindersley that went a perfect 8 for 8 over the weekend and he also set up the game winning goal on Saturday night. Jesse Mysiorek had two goals over the weekend including the big game winner on Saturday night when he was parked out in front of the net going to the gritty areas like he always does. He also scored on Sunday to give the Klippers a bit of life in the third period.

I was very impressed with Davies and Bosovich on Saturday night. They have outstanding skill levels that compliment each other nicely. If skill is what some of the scouts were looking at then I am sure they are now on a few scouts radars if they weren't already.

Overall I don't think Sundays performance by the Klippers team did any favors for any Klippers individually and a few players may be disappointed with their play throughout the weekend but it's defiantly not anything to hang their heads over. I am certain that a few players are on the scouts radar and with the SJHL season only being 11 games deep those scouts will continue to evaluate moving forward.

  1. I'd like to know why MacDonald didn't get a chance to showcase his talent on the weekend.

  2. I was suprised aswell but Mac has been struggling a bit and Abdallah got them the victory on Saturday so they wanted to ride the hot hand

  3. Can't speak for the coaches but my guess would be they gave Abdallah the start Sunday because he got the win Saturday. I understand but don't really agree with it. Mac should have got the start in game one (he's your #1 guy) and then you give game 2 to your other goalie! It is the Showcase and every player deserved some time. I didn't hear if Mac was hurt or not.

  4. That choice certainly won't help his confidence in the least.

  5. Mac was definitely not hurt. If memory serves me correct he didn't play in show case last year either. Kindersley is one of 3 teams not to play both there goalies in estevan. This is a shame. Mac is one of those players that want to win and very passionate about being a klipper. Too bad the overuse of rookies and no respect for the vets has put us in a losing start to the season.

  6. Yes, it is becoming more apparent that the decision has been made to focus on the younger players and not utilize the veterans as maybe they should. Hope they find the 20's good teams to finish their SJ careers with.

  7. Get rid of Zinger before this season becomes a disaster.

  8. klippers have to show more respect to their vets they have payed their dues and are all high quality players.there is more depth to this team than 4 1993 players

  9. The reason Abdallah played was because he had a big win against Flin Flon. They lost 5 previous games in which Mac had started 4 of them. I love Macs work ethic and I know he will find his game moving forward, but when Abdallah plays lights out and gets his team a win you gotta roll with him the next night. Sure its the showcase and Mac could have started but the coaching staff felt there best chance to win on Sunday was to dress Abdallah. Mac will likly get a chance at home on Wednesday against Melfort to restore his confidence.

  10. 2010 showcase last year klippers were one of only two teams again not to play both goalies this is maybe something that should be looked in to. klipper goalie last year played both games in showcase and already had scholarship. mac lost out both years.

  12. the whole team needs to find their game rookies vets goalies and dont forget our inexperienced coaching staff

  13. Couldn't agree more!

  14. Blah Blah Blah!!! all this talk about rookie vets goalies unless somone wants to step up and coach or try to even coach sit there and be a fan or fans. It is alot easier from the stands to point fingers. And i think every coach wants to or should put the best players on thee ice at all times and obviously thats what he is doing to try to win games. If the Klippers were 7-1 8-2 i dont think this would be a issue. And by the way a big shout out to Mac to just go with it and support the team and coaches on the decissions being made even if it does bother him obviously he knows its a team game unlike some of the posters on thuis blog...

  15. how did the klipper goalie play in the loss on sundays game against Melville? there has been no info on blog.

  16. Zinger is going to lose the room very soon the vets are going to give up. They are all going to want out of here and then what? Same crap as last year. Time for some changes I think

  17. To the second last poster. Thing is, they aren't 7-1 or 8-2 so maybe the rookies aren't the ones that should be thrown out on the ice during crunch time? Nobody is questioning their talent but there is a time you need to turn to your 19 and 20 year olds.
When 3 first year players are sent out for the start of a power play, that's sending a pretty clear message to the rest of the team and it's not the one I'd be sending. This isn't a talent issue it's a chemistry issue that I'm not sure can be fixed now! And it all started with the splitting of the C and the A's, believe it!

  18. interesting to see that the SJHL media who was in attendance also felt that Abdallah had a great performance on Saurday.

From Mike Stackhouse: The Klippers are better than the record indicates, although they’ll need to secure more consistency from the goaltending position. Fraser Abdallah gave the best netminding performance of the weekend on Saturday night against Flin Flon. Overall, the play of several returning veterans has to be somewhat disappointing; although rookies like Justin Lund, Troy Gedny, and Kyle Davies has to be encouraging. Tanner Kissick has taken a nice step forward too.

  19. It's the Coaches Job to put the 6 players on the ice at any given time, that he thinks will give the team the best chance to win! Rockie can't reward the vets just because they've been around a few years longer, he has to try and get the win. On Saturday it was the vets that were playing well, and Rockie rewarded them by playing them in the final minutes- lo and behold they get the win! Those same vetran players did not have a good showing on sunday. It's not a simple matter of Veterans or Young guys...there's no silver bullet solution!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ya but those vets got more ice and more important, respect last year than this year, that is the problem. Don't think they are working any less harder than last year.

Hope they can turn it around!

  21. Wel now one more vet should get more ice time as now there is one more 93 out for 2- 4 weeks so we see what happens...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, Hoffman got player of the game and third star on Sunday. Mysoriek got one of the goals. Not sure who they mean by a disappointment.

  23. Ouch, glad I popped in to check the Blog. Some of those same vets pulled the strings to screw the organization into a frenzy at Christmas last year. May be awhile to get the old respect back in Klip Land.It all starts at the top of the heep and runs slowly down. Vets suck it up and show some f ing heart. Good luck Rocky and watch your back.

  24. well just say it will be on the blog soon and from what i get from sources he been playing hurt since spring camp so hope it workks out for everyone...

  25. Heads up Rocky the pipe smokers and knives are out, Watch your back. Just before Xmas it all started last yr. Suck it up vets and lead

  26. None of these vets had anything to do with what happened last year. Get your facts straight before you mouth off. And if you think any of the 4 20 year olds don't play with heart every game, you haven't been watching Klipper hockey for the past two years.

    ReplyDelete
  27. People are Brain dead if they think the Vets on this team don`t care. They Do care that is why they are starting to lose Respect for the COACH. You have to give RESPECT in order to earn it back.Rocky is going to Have to change his ways.

  28. looks like a rough game tonight yikes, give weisgerber a call

  29. Anyone that questions the heart the 4 20's have obviously doesn't know them at all. End of story!

  30. last year under rockies supervision the team went like 23-3 hahhahaha soooo its just the matter of developing a young team into a great team i think we should start pointing the fingers at the board and possibly the people that are doing the recruiting because obviously they arnt bringing in great players to carry the load as 18 19 years olds like larry did.??? i donno just my point of it, people are letting one kid last year in tanner exner ruin this team and the way people look at it by quitting, ever think he didnt like the game anymore..... plus he sucked anyway
