Klippers drop 1st of 2 against Mills 4-1

Kindersley came out the shoot with a ton of jump in the opening frame, but as the game wore on Melville just kept coming on route to a 4-1 victory.

Your post game report is brought to you by....

Kindersley kept pace in the shot department but I felt they didn't take enough quality shots on Voth who picked up his 1st SJHL victory in his 1st start. Melville on the other hand was generating high quality scoring chances all night long, forcing Justin McDonald to make a lot of big saves through out the game. McDonald really allowed his club to keep pace last night, he did let in 4 goals but overall he put together another quality start that unfortunately for him did not lead to a W. In terms of Melville I really noticed last night that they love to get their dmen involved. Guys like Christensen and Newell move the puck very well and aren't afraid to step up in the rush. The Melville squad that I seen last night was the best I seen that bunch play in the 3 meetings so far this season. Having a healthy Christensen really solidifies their hockey club. Russell Trudeau also looked great in only his 3rd SJHL game. The youngster was recently acquired from Steinbach for Owen, and Rakochy. He had 2 goals and an apple and was buzzing all night long. For Kindersley to be successful on Sunday, they will need to find a way to get more pressure from their wingers onto the Mills defense. They will also need to find a way to shut down the number one trio of McNulty, Mireau and Trudeau. In my mind Sundays game is a must win for Kindersley, I know it's tough to say that when being only a third into the season, but Kindersley really needs a big win before their upcoming long road trip. They will play Tuesday in Battlefords and then after that play 5 games over a 6 day span. Melville should be a tired hockey team come Sunday as they play out in Battlefords tonight.

Here's a conversation with head coach Rockie Zinger after last nights loss. Soundcloud is not letting me post the interview in the normal format right now so just click the link below and it will direct you to my Soundcloud page for you to listen.

  1. Perhaps Rocky should have a look at the possible connection to the Penalty minutes verses league standing? I think it might be time for the boy's to show a little disipline and play hockey?

  3. To the first poster, your comment has "some" merit but let's be completely honest about this year's team. They just don't have that one line that is a threat to score every time it's on the ice. The top teams have that one line as was evident against Melville. This team must score by committee and that leads into the second poster's comment. Not having that dynamic scoring threat means you need to look to the entire team to contribute and it's pretty tough to get any mileage out of your players when they see very limited ice time. The other factor is it seems every single night there are different line combinations outside of the Hoffman line so there isn't a lot of chemistry being formed. I think there are some very good parts to work with but I'm not sure we'll see them come together as a well oiled machine this year.

Let's try and stay positive folks, this team needs your support more than anything right now. Instead of beating them up why not go out to a game and cheer them on or better yet, get to know them personally, pretty good group of kids. I can assure you it's not fun for them either right now.

    GO KLIPPERS!

  4. You are absolutly right about there being diffrent line combinations every night and NO Chemistry. But does that not come down to coaching AGAIN.

  5. I thinking the same two games against Melville the top so called line was minus 4or5then you have aline with a player playing his first game as a klipper and there the only lines creating chances and looking like they want to play. You are right coaching is where the problem is its just a good old boys club thats all.........

  6. Yes it does but with such a young team you have to go through some growing pains, seeing who might fit with who. It's the chicken or the egg scenario. And when you're desperate for some wins you have to keep rolling the dice. This can't be blamed on our coaching staff because they are just trying to find the right formula.

One thing fans should NEVER question about this team is their desire to win, never! There is a ton of heart in that dressing room. They want to win for the town of Kindersley as much as for themselves.

    GO KLIPPERS!

  7. Don't forget that the so called top line is supposed to be scoring and checking. Make up your mind. They can't do both. It just doesn't work that way.

  8. If the top line is lined up head to head against the opposition's top line and comes away at the end of the night plus or even, they won their battle. Same with the other lines, they have to win the match up battle too. Give the players challenges and they might respond. Most nights 6 forwards see most of the icetime and right now that's not getting it done.
