D Jay McGrath On His Way To The Klippers?

This morning it appears that D Jay McGrath was released from the Everett Silvertips of the WHL. As far as I know he is Klippers property and will be a Klippers. His release is a bit of a suprise because he was getting a ton of ice time in Everett this season. He is from Kindersley and a good friend of Sean Flanagan's, sounds like a guy who should fit right in with the team. I will try to get more info on this from Larry...

Here is info from Nick Pattersons Blog :

Thursday's acquisition of overage center Parker Stanfield left the Tips roster cramped up front, requiring at least one move up front, and today D.Jay McGrath became an unfortunate victim of the numbers game as he was reassigned to the SJHL.

MCGrath, an 18-year-old center, spent all of last season with the Tips, tallying two goals and three assists in 53 games. This season he played in all five of Everett's games without scoring.

This is interesting as McGrath was actually toward the middle of the depth chart rather than at the bottom. Not only had he played in every game, but he was getting significant minutes as essentially a third liner, and he was also being used as a penalty killer.

However, at 18 McGrath is also older than everyone below him on the depth chart. The Tips must believe the younger players, while maybe not at McGrath's level right now, have greater potential and will be better players by the end of the season.
