Before we get to the game recap, I guess tonight's online streaming for the radio cast was not working and only those who could catch the game were those who could listen on the radio. I honestly have no idea what is wrong but it seems like a problem at the station. I am going to try and contact our tech guy tomorrow and hopefully get it fixed for tomorrows game.
On to the game , I would describe it as a disappointment, while Larry described it as embarrassing.
The Klippers came out flying in the first period and looked just like they did against Weyburn and Humboldt at home. It started when Taylor Duzan scored on a breakaway to extend his goal streak to 7 games. This is the second time this season Duzan has had a 7 game goal streak.
The Klippers second goal was a fortunate bounce that went off the enboards right out in front to Adamyk who burried.
The Klippers would then add another marker near the end of the frame on a Sean Flanagan shot that was tipped in front by Jesse Mysiorek.
At the end of the first I thought personally the Klippers were going to cruise to a victory, but it appeared that maybe they had thought the same.
The second period Melville certainly controlled the majority of the play. It seemed like after Jordon Hoffman dropped the gloves and left the game in need to get stitches for a big cut that the momentum changed in the Mills favor.
In the third period despite some lack luster play and great goaltending by Sean Cahill the Klippers still had the lead heading into the final stages of the third period when Melville would score three goals in the final 5 minutes including the winner with 18 seconds.
Now I am not one to make excuses but I do not think the fourth goal should of counted. Cahill was bulled over in front and couldnt get back up in time to stop Hansons shot into the yawning cage.
Nonetheless it was a very poor performance for the Klippers in the third period. I really thought the Klippers were coming together of late , but maybe I was wrong , or maybe it was just one bad game. I am not sure , I guess we will see tomorrow when the Klippers take on the number one team in the SJHL in Yorkton.
Also thought I should mention that Jesse Mysiorek was great tonight for the Klippers. He was one of the only guys who played a constant sixty minute effort , and was crushing everyone on the ice.
On Cahill , I am impressed. This kid has raw goaltending talent and certainly didn't deserve a loss tonight for his performance. Awesome rebound control , quick reflexes and he sees the puck great. Tough break in the end for him , but for the most part you cant fault him for those goals. I think he has potential to be great for the Klippers.
More to come tomorrow. I will have interviews up with Larry Wintoneak and Sean Cahill on his debut. Larry had alot to say after tonight so check back early tomorrow.
The head coach should be embarrassed! How do you let the situation get to that? When it was 3-1 you could see Melville was coming on, when it was 3-2 why wouldn't he make a goaltender change for 1 shift just to slow things down some, talk to his players, calm them down. He got flustered and couldn't handle the situation. This debacle could prove to be the beginning of the end to what was once a very promising season.
ReplyDeleteThere is a big difference between a motivator and a dictator. What the Klippers desperately need is a motivator, they already have the latter.
