Kindersley Klippers Nominees For SJHL Year End Awards

It was announced just after 11 AM today at the Synergy Credit Union that Johnny Calkins, Kurt Leedahl and Tanner Kissick would be the Klippers nominees for the year end SJHL awards. I couldn't agree more with the three selections the SJHL made for Kindersley. Below is the write up on each player courtesy of the SJHL. I also have interviews with each players posted below each writeup.

Most Oustanding Player - Johnny Calkins - The Klippers were looking for a big year from the 20 year old forward from Kyle, Saskatchewan but their expectations were heightened when team captain Andrew Dommett went down with injury. Calkins has come through with flying colours as he has led the team in scoring with 71 points which is good for 4th overall in the league. He started the week tied for the league lead in assists with 51 and his play will be counted upon if the Klippers are to bring another SJHL title back to Kindersley.

Johnny Calkins

Most Oustanding Defenceman - Kurt Leedahl - The 20 year old Saskatoon product has made the most of his last season in junior "A" hockey. Leedahl doesn't put up the offensive numbers that others in the SJHL do, but opposition forwards know it is very tough to come down on him and generate chances. His solid play is one of the big reasons why the Klippers are in within sight of first place in the Sherwood Conference as the season starts to wind down.

Top Rookie - Tanner Kissick - Tanner was expected to play one more season for the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Midget Triple A League, but he impressed the team with his work ethic and his desire right from the start of training camp to the point he was told to stick around. The 17 year old from Kerrobert has not stopped working and while he hasn't been on the roster every night, he has shown that he has the tools to be a team leader starting as early as next year.

The three players will join the nominees from the 11 other SJHL teams for year-end-awards. Those awards will be announced shortly after the end of the regular season.

I will have much more on each player during tonights webcast when the Klippers host the Hawks. Pre game will start at 7:15
