Klippers Hang On To Edge Weyburn 3-2

First off wow, what a hockey game!

The game was a fast paced, hard hitting, in your face style of hockey, with two very solid hockey clubs battling for two points to solidify their playoff fate. It seemed like both teams wanted to send a message early, due to the fact that if the playoffs were to start today, Kindersley would be playing Weyburn in the first round. It really was a playoff like atmosphere in Weyburn last night, the crowd was loud, and you could really tell both teams started to hate each other more and more as the game went along.

After a lackluster performance the previous night against Notre Dame, the Klippers put that game behind them and came out flying. Rockie Zingers message to his club was we don’t lose two games in a row, and the Klippers managed to do that. The last time the Klippers actually lost two in a row dates back to Nov.29th.

The Klippers really controlled the first forty minutes of action, and build themselves a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the third period. I really liked the way the back end played last night for Kindersley. They moved the puck well allowing the forwards to get chances offensively, and they were very sound in their own end. Johnathon Sonntag was a beast on the ice last night. Sonntag being a physical player clearly flourished in an environment that was rough and tough last night. Sonntag is going to be huge for the Klippers come playoff time when every game will be played with that much intensity.

Late in the second period Hoffman and Mysiorek were working hard down low on the cycle, which lead to a DUZZY OF A GOAL BY TAYLOR DUZAN!

It’s been a long time coming for Taylor Duzan, who hadn’t scored in the previous 19 games, but last night he lifted the world off his shoulders and scored a huge goal for the Klippers, which would go on to be the eventual game winning marker. Duzzy was flying all game for the Klippers last night and it's good to see him find the back of the net, I am sure Duzan has his swagger back now and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get on a roll here down the stretch.

That goal was scored at the 19:42 mark right before the end of the period. I thought the Klippers would have a ton of momentum heading into the third. Kindersley had a few power plays but really got nothing going against the leagues number one pk. It shifted the momentum towards Weyburn and they started to come on hard and fast!!

Weyburn managed to score two big goals and make it a one goal game. They didn’t stop their though as they started to pour on the pressure. They were dominating on the cycle in the Klippers end, and it lead to a lot of high quality scoring chances. Kindersley managed to calm the storm large in part to some great goaltending by Sean Cahill.

Now with less than thirty seconds left, Weyburn had their net empty and were generating chances but couldn’t cash on Cahill. They were frustrated and some rough stuff started to ensue. Out in front a scrum broke loose with 6 or 7 players. Out of the scrum would come Johnathon Sonntag and Brock Appleyard who decided to drop the mitts. Probably wasn’t the best choice by Appleyard, as Sonntag just pumped him, and dropped him to the ice with a huge right.

After that some more rough stuff went down as Justin Gerwing was basically jumped off the next faceoff by Vogel, the linesman stepped in to try and break it up but both players wouldn’t let up and broke loose for a short scuffle. Not to many punches in this one but good on the rookie Gerwing to not back down to Vogel who was basically twice his size.

Overall like I mentioned by the end of that game these teams absolutely hated each other, if they do play in the playoffs what a series it will be.

Kindersley will be in Estevan tonight another big divisional matchup, and these two teams also have some bad blood dating back to last weekend in Kindersley. The puck will drop at 7:30 tonight with the pregame show at 7:15. D Jay McGrath will once again be joining me in the booth for some color commentary.

Here are some post game interviews, enjoy...

I had one with Sonntag also, but for some reason I can't find the interview on my recorder. I will try and locate it.
