Klippers Take Down First Place Yorkton In A Wild One At The WCEC

Well what a crazy game that was.  I was expecting a close knit game, a one or two goal game that could have went either way, but instead the Kindersley Klippers would score 6 unanswered in the first frame and that was about all she wrote.

The Terriers came out pretty strong, had two big chances, one in which Clarke Breitkreuz barrled down the left side and took the puck hard to the net. Sean Cahill made a huge save to deny him and it seemed like after that big save all the momentum shifted in the Klippers favor.

The Klippers turned their game up to an entire new level and came on strong. It was relentless pressure, and they didn't give Yorkton anything to work with.  It was shot after shot, chance after chance and goal after goal. It was initiated by the trio of Wheaton King, Sanfred King and Ryan Elliot. They combined for four goals in the opening frame. Without D Jay McGrath on that line, I wondered if that line would contribute as much as they had been, but Ryan Elliot stepped in and played very well. He pitched in with 2 goals and an apple. His running mates Wheaton King and Sanfred King put up 4 and 3 points respectively. Not bad when your so called second or third line can pitch in the way this line can.

So after 20 it was six nothing and really the Klippers kind of started to play a bit sloppy in the second and third periods. What do you expect though, I mean when your up that big the game is basically sealed and you start to play without that desperation that you would play with if it was a much closer game.

The Yorkton Terriers managed to some what make a game of it, but really it was just a sloppy game in the final forty with some up and downs for both teams.

A few other quick hits, the Klippers 9th goal was credited to Johnny Calkins and assisted by Adamyk and Dommett. Well Calkins and Adamyk should be swapped around, as Calkins was the passer and Adamyk the finisher. So Adamyk should have 33 goals on the season, we will see if that changes.

Regardless, Johnny Calkins had 4 points on the night which put him at 80 points on the campaign and moved him into third place in the SJHL scoring race ahead of Lindensmith. He is currently 4 points back of Eggum for the lead.

Jesse Mysiorek returned to the lineup last night and did his job as usual for the Klippers. Good news for the club that he is healthy once again with McGrath out and Braaten still not ready to go. Both players weren't at the game last night as they went out of town to get re evaluated.

A big win over Yorkton gives the Klippers a ton of momentum heading into their upcoming road trip. Three games in three nights all against divisional opponents and only two points back of first place. It should be a very entertaining stretch drive.

The puck will drop tomorrow night at 8 PM in Wilcox Saskatchewan. You can catch the action on Classic Hits radio starting at 7:45.

Here is head coach Rockie Zinger talking about his teams big win...

  1. The goal horn (which I love) got a good workout last night. At the end of the day, 2 points for the Klippers, none for the other guys!
