Klippers Halt 2 Game Skid With Win Over Broncos

Klippers 5 - Broncos 2

Well it was certainly a more complete game by the Kindersley Klippers, but despite the win the Klippers somewhat left you with wanting more. I know they had a decisive win, winning by three goals and controlled most of the play, but it seemed like only one line showed up last night for the Klippers for the entire sixty minutes. Now each line had their moments but it was the King bros alongside Braaten that did the damage. The trio would combine for 8 points each scoring a goal, including Spencer Braaten's first goal as a Klipper. They were buzzing all night long, and definitely were the main reason why the Klippers won that game. I am certainly not trying to take anything away from the Klippers, but I just think their can be more. It's been a few games since we have seen all four lines contributing offensively like they are certainly capable of. Rockie Zinger had also mentioned this to me in the room after the game.

Now as for the other lines, like I mentioned they had their moments including the big line of Calkins, Adamyk and Dommett playing a more physical role in this game. Adamyk was throwing his body around alot last night, he made 2 pretty big hits both in one shift. Dommett was finishing every check and has certainly got that physical edge back to his game.

I did like the trio of Duzan and Hoffman with Morin last night. Duzan and Hoffman were giving it 110 % as usual and Morin really added that physical aspect that Rockie Zinger had eluded to off the top of last nights broadcast. He isn't the biggest hitter and wont crank a guy threw the glass, but he battles hard, he finishes his checks and I think he has done a very effective job moving up front rather than playing defense. Morin also doesn't hesitate to drop the gloves as he did last night with Minville.

The game got a bit chippy in the third with a few fights as Wasden went with Glowa and Sonntag went with Antkowiak. Both were pretty spirited tilts, but nothing crazy. The one thing I still don't understand is why all the players who fought were given 10 minute game misconducts and were all tossed from the hockey game. If some one knows the rule behind that, could you please share it with me.

For the Klippers they did a great job scoring 5 on 5 and were given limited time on the power play with only 3 opportunities in the game. On the PK the Klippers once again did a very solid job killing 6 of 7. The PK has been great in 2011, and will be huge for the Klippers if they can continue this success into the playoffs. At one point in 2010 the Klippers were 11th in the SJHL penalty kill department, but they are now in the top 5 percentage wise.

One more note, I really liked the game of Cody Lund last night, he scored a goal with a great point shot down low, but he was also very good in his own zone being his usual steady self. He really will be a big player in the playoffs for the Klippers. He is the kind of shut down man you want on your team come playoff time.

The Klippers with that win, jumped to within 6 points of Yorkton for 1st place, still giving them some hope. Yorkton only got one point last night with a shoot out loss to Weyburn. So with four games left aside the Klippers and Terriers will showdown this Saturday at the WCEC. If Klippers can beat Yorkton it will definitely make the final few games interesting.

I didn't get any post game interviews last night, as by time I was done calling the game on the webcast with the cold and sore throat I had, I could barley talk. Calling the game really made my voice worse ha, and now today I can barely string together a news cast. I would of liked to hook up with Braaten after scoring his first Klipper goal but I am sure you heard enough of him on the radio broadcasts while he was out with his injury.

As I would rather give my own personal input rather then just write up a recap of the goal scorers and goal times, I will post the score sheet for your viewing pleasure.

  3. Ullsy,
My understanding is that if a player fights in the last 10 minutes of the game he gets the automatic 10 minute misconduct and a game. It is supposed to be a preventative measure against the same 2 players going again and potential brawls. May have to go to the league if you want the official version!
