Klippers Take Game One 4-2 With Gritty Performance ** Updated With Kevin Edgerton Interview **

Well what a start to the SJHL Sherwood Semi Finals. I thought both teams gave it their all tonight and overall it was a great way to kick off the series.

The Klippers played a great playoff style of hockey and in the end were rewarded with a win.

The Klippers seemed a bit antsy to start the game, with maybe a bit too much playoff adrenaline after a long break off. Weyburn would make them pay early on with a quick goal from Brock Appleyard. The adrenaline also resulted in Braeden Adamyk and Sanfred King getting into first period tilts. Now I love the courage and toughness of those two players to drop the mitts but the Klippers don’t need two of their best offensive players fighting two of Weyburns biggest guys. It is playoff hockey though, and it certainly brings fire out of every player, so you can't fault them for dropping the gloves. Gotta give them some props to for taking on two much bigger customers and holding their own.

After the first period the Klippers seemed to settle down a bit and started playing their game. They had some trouble beating Mitch Kilgore off the hop who made some sensational saves for the Wings. In the second though the Klippers solved him on a great second effort by Sanfred King to tie the hockey game. Shortly after the Klippers got rolling and some great work by down low by Johnny Calkins lead to the Klippers second goal. Calkins fought off both Weyburn dmen and then fed a perfect pass in front to Klippers captain Andrew Dommett who made no mistake and cashed to give the Klippers the lead.

The Wings had a great chance on the power play late in the second to tie the game heading into the third but a outstanding effort from Jordon Hoffman resulted in a shorthanded marker and a 3-1 Klippers lead.

In the third the Redwings had some jump and created some chances of their own. They really impressed me with the way they fought back after giving up that late goal to end the 2nd. Bruce would score to make it a 3-2 game in the third and then after that the Wings would get a flurry of opportunities. Sean Cahill though stood his ground for Kindersley cementing his name in the series with some huge saves.

The Klippers though would get through the short storm and gain back control of the game. John Sonntag would add a insurance marker on a perfect wrister from the blue line after some gritty work along the wall by Riley Down.

Overall I thought it was a gritty team effort by the Kindersley Klippers. It takes more than one player to win a playoff hockey game and the Klippers certainly showed that tonight with that gritty performance.

As for the crowd tonight at the WCEC, it was an electric atmosphere. The fans really got behind the team tonight which was great to see. The official attendance tonight was 1399!!!

Game two will go tomorrow night, it will be interesting to see if either team makes any changes to their line-ups.

Here is a interview I did post game with Klippers assistant coach Kevin Edgerton live on last nights webcast. Kevin joins me following every game in the booth and here is that conversation....

  1. I agree it was a game were both teams gave it their all. Im wondering if anybody kept track of offense and defensive faceoff wins and loses .It seems to me that the klippers won at least 80 percent of the draws which means they controled the puck. the game is about puck control.

  2. Game 2 Dwight and the goon squad should have suspensions nice game plan Da white. Heard a rumor from one of your scouts that Kindersley may win but they will be short some players for the next round. Well you ass were down a couple with your shitty play and cheap hits from behind. Maybe you will have some more quit on you now, that hockey went out in the 70's Da-white. Hopefully the league will deal with that shit and they better be in Weyburn for the next rodeo. Go KLIPS.
