Klippers Deal Gerwing For Tender

The Kindersley Klippers announced today that they have acquired the rights to goaltender Riley Parker (1992) from the Olds Grizzlies in exchange for forward Justin Gerwing (1992).

Parker is from Abbottsford, BC, but is quite familiar with Saskatchewan as he attended high school in Wilcox, SK. While in Wilcox he was a part of the Telus Cup National Championship Notre Dame Hounds leading them to victory in the final game of the tournament versus a Malcolm Subban Mississauga Reps club. Last year Parker had a whirlwind season that started in Okotoks, then saw a quick stop in Camrose, and finally finished the season in Olds. In 30 games in the AJHL he has compiled a 12-10-4 record, which includes 2 shutouts.

"Riley is a real solid goaltender that never had a real chance to get his feet under himself last season due to circumstances that were out of his control. We feel that the potential is there for him to have an outstanding season and knowing the quality of the person that he is, we see no reason as to why he won't be able to achieve great success.” said Klippers Coach Rockie Zinger.

Leaving the Klippers after one season will be Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native Justin Gerwing. Gerwing played 30 games with the Klippers last season scoring 4 goals and adding 1 assist for 5 points and amassed 72 penalty minutes.

"We felt that Goaltending was a position that we needed to become deeper at and when trying to increase the depth in one area you usually have to draw from another that is a position of strength and that's what we did here. We had a real log jam with the amount of quality Junior A capable forwards and we needed to move a player in order to bring in a solid goaltender that will create a healthy competition in camp this fall. I don't believe that we would have been able to provide Justin with the amount of minutes that he deserves as a player and therefore it was a good situation that places him somewhere that he will be able to earn those minutes and thrive."

The Klippers want to wish Justin the best of luck with the Grizzlies while thanking him for his time in Kindersley. They also extend a warm welcome to Riley and his family to the Klippers organization.

  5. Okay, it's official! The Edmonton Eskimos make me throw up.
That bogus 1.5 seconds left on the clock at the end of the first half smelled an awful lot like home cookin' to me! Oh well, at least 2 guys in Kindersley are happy!
